My Creative Rituals Before Starting a New Piece

Before I begin any new piece, I pause. Life moves fast—but creativity needs space to breathe. I start by grounding myself, letting go of distractions so I can tune into the energy I want to channel into the work. Whether I’m preparing for a commission, an exhibit, or something deeply personal for the Heart of Colors Project, I always begin with stillness and intention.

My studio becomes a sanctuary. I often close my eyes, breathe deeply, and feel the energy in the room shift. I clear the space with breath and presence. Colors come to me through feeling—not trends—and I choose my tools intuitively: paints, palette knives, digital brushes, or simply a pencil and paper to let something soft emerge. Sometimes I journal, sometimes I move to music that helps me settle into the rhythm of creation.
